i am looking for a over under drive unit for my 96 PSD F250 4x4. i read a couple of years ago that gear vendors made one. any help please i cant search
Us gear and Gear vendors make them. Both are good products each with its good and bad. I recall reading that most like the GV unit a bit better. Awful pricy though. Last I looked into it.....it was around 3 grand for a unit.
I run a gearvendors overdrive behind my 5 speed. I ABSOLUTLY LOVE IT. Not only for the improved fuel mileage, but the cool factor, not reving like crazy runnin' 80, etc. Keeps the engine from woking harder. But yeah, it was 3k when it was all said and done and I did the install. But I'm convinced that's the best 3k I have ever spend hands down. But if you are looking for both an under drive and over drive, I believe US Gear is the only one making one. And I won't lie, they are a stronger unit. But they are not as smooth and quiet to shift. Both Gear Vendors and US Gear have web sites, just google them. Hope that helps.
i am looking for something that i can shift on the fly while towing. and will mount up behind the automatic in my 4x4 f250 psd. i run 315 75 r 16 so i am looking for something to help out with climbing hills while pulling my trailer and having my camper in the bed. over drive is too high and 3 is to low on the freeway under 75. right now i pull 2k rpm at 75 when i am loaded down with my cab over camper and my 20 foot box trailer loadded with 4 quads my buggy a dirtbike and a cord of firewood. and all gear. it does ok on flat ground when there isnt a head wind. but when i start climbing hills if i dont get a run at them or if they are real long or steep i slow all the way down to 35. so i am wound tight in second gear to climb steep long hills. and that sucks because my buddy that i go with is leaving me with hsi 00 6.0 chvy pullling a toyhauler. with his rhino on a rack in the bed. but he is only getting 6 mpg while i get 8.5to 9.5 depending on the terrain how many hills how much head wind and how hard i am pulling. i am lucky to get a total of 300 miles out of both tanks when not pushing hard doing 65 on cruise. normally i set my truck on cruise at what ever speed overdrive will hold. so typically around 2k and 70 to 75 mph.
I run the GV unit behind my auto in my 97 PSD. Its perfect for that split shift between 3-4. Love it towing. we pull a 15,000 lb 5th wheel and its great. Like Rubberduck said. spendy, but well worth it
