tranny went

Today i picked up my 22' jon boat with my 92 f-150 5.0L. I was driving home ike 40 miles. I was traveling around 45 to 50 the whole way. I saw some smoke and slowed down to see if it was me . when i did the truck shut off. I pulled over and started it back up. It wouldnt move. Is it fried or is there any hope for it? I dont really want to put a new tranny in it. Are trucks sellable with out a tranny?
Thanks Dan

Yeah I paid 500$ for my 93 with a blown tranny. I rebuilt it for 1500$ Now I have a truck worth about 4K or so.

What color was the smoke/is the fluid leaking under the truck? Give us a little more info here and we'll be able to better assist you.

mine went in my 1995 f350 and blew trans fluid all over the place, then it caught on fire from it, luckily quick action saved it from doing any damage.

had to get a new trans for it.

when i worked at the ford house i read some stuff on the e4od. the problem with so many going out or burning up is the cooling system. it's poor design to have the transmission cooler integrated in the radiator. a lot of people went to a hayden auxillary cooler system for the tranny and it works easier and lasts longer. i plan on installing one in mine to prevent overheating the fluid again.
