EFI fuel pressure question

I have a 1988 F150 with a 300 six with EFI. I think I am having fuel pump problems and plan to check my fuel pressure with a gauge I recently bought. Can any one tell me what the pressure range should be with key on - engine not running and engine running? Thanks alot.

Attach the gauge to the fuel rail and without starting the engine just turn the key to the on position (the pump should run for a few seconds) and see what the pressure is. Start the engine and check the pressure. I don't have a manual for that year but it should be around 30 to 35 psi I would imagine. If you unplug the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator your reading on the gauge should go up about 10 psi. Thats with the engine running.

Just did the same thing--45psi with regulator connected----55 with regulator vacuum disconnected.
