All I can say is.......Good luck. Most times you'll never get them all, if any. I don't think there is enough room to get them thru pushrod slots anyway.
Save the cuss'n and just pull intake. Another hour wasted is better then days cuss'n.
It CAN be done, but it ain't easy. If you're talking about one, two, three or so, it's not too bad, but if you're trying to replace all, pull the intake. And this ONLY applies to FE's. With other engine families, I don't think any have large enough pushrod holes to handle a lifter. FE's have got large open gaps between the intake and heads to pass lifters thru.

what's so bad about pulling the intake anyways?.....it's only a few bolts, and a distributor....that's worth the time saved pulling lifters out to me.....but who knows
okay, so I left out some coolant lines....not that it makes much of a difference...
I guess it could be done if your a surgen...LOL..Because those opening on the Intake are not inline with the lifter bores, and would haveto be fished out at an angle..
and I think the inner most lifter's might not clear the Hold down boss's for the covers?
Just pull the Intake and be done with it!! you would spend so much more time in the long run fishing lifters out of the Valley than its even worth..JMO..

UH, What's so bad? If you've got a 100 lb iron intake, that's what comes to my mind. Fishing those lifters not inline with the openings in the intake isn't as hard as you'd think. As long as they're not varnished up or damaged in some other way that would keep them from coming out of their bores with a magnet, it's not that big a deal to do a couple.
I pulled one the other day just to see how it was wearing. As it came out I realized that if it lost contact with the magnet it would fall under the valley pan. That was one I could see, most of them I couldn't see.
yea, I dunno, I've never had lifters that just lifteed right out, they usually have varnish on the underside, so I've always had to pry at em' w/ something. and that 100 lb intake's not that bad, I've taken em' off, and put em' back on in my truck before.....it wasn't as friendly as the 302 intake in my Ranger, but it still wasn't TOO bad.
