I have nearly restored my 57 ford truck, but i can't drive it because I have out of state tag and title. There are no Vin#'s in the cab or on the frame, what should i do?
Hi,
Things might work different in your state but here in N.J., all I needed to register my truck was the transfered title. Mine was purchased out of state as well. They never asked to see the vin on the frame.
The early 1957's had the rating plate on the door pillar, and the later '57's had it on the glovebox door. Even if the rating plate is missing, all '57-'60 Fords had the vin stamped on the frame. It's there but hard to find sometimes. It should be stamped on the top of the frame (near the steering box I believe).
Did they changed the location of the VIN on the frame between 56 and 57? The 56's have the VIN stamped on top of the frame rail flange just ahead of the cab on the passenger (right) side. It's been a while since I had the sheet metal on my frame but I think I could see it from above without removing anything from the truck.
my dad had the same problem and he went to the motor vehicles office and they put an metal stick on his door post with a state implied id number on it. I am sure if you call them they will do the same if you cant find your original one.
Here in maryland they will issue a moter vechile vin plate my 77 has one on it.that is how all these kit cars get on the road.I am also sure that you could get one were you are from.
