They both have the gear and lightning bolt but other than that they are totally different. The '57 style is bigger and wider and has points sticking out of the upper corners and center kind of like a shield. The '53/'56 style has a radiused cutout that runs vertically in the back to fit the raised peak that runs the length of the hood.
Hood emblems for a 57 is something I would like to find out more about.I know that there were 2 different ones on these trucks. One like 5 star discribed in the last post.I have seen a few of these trucks one was for sale that person told me that the truck came the west.Mostly what I have seen is the one that looks like a 56 but a 56 ford in script and a 57 is in bold FORD print and the back is shaped different.Mine has the small one it was built in Norfolk. It would kinda neet to find out why these trucks had different hood emblems?
They are one peace. I don't know how to get the pic's here but they are in my gallery the old looking one is the one on my truck and the other one is taken from a book witch looks like the ones I have seen. That one is for a 60.I also noticed that a 58 uses the same as a 57 like on mine.
Thanks That clears it up. Now I have another impossible part to find. If anyone has a nice looking one they are tired of kicking around the garage let me know.
I went out and looked again. The '57 seems to be a pretty early model by the serial number. It's kind of an oddball being a 6 cyl. Custom Cab ( chrome grille with no emblem in the center ). It has the early 'C' channel type front bumper. It has the large hood emblem like a '60, but they won't interchange because of the shape of the front of the hood. The truck was built in Kansas City. BTW I looked in all my books last night and all the pictures of trucks and sales literature show the small hood emblem on the '57 and '58.
I have seen at least 2 other trucks with that big hood emblem and they look like they belong their. It is kinda weard that 3 of these trucks has that emblem.
