oil leaks

I was wondering if ford is still having problems with rear main and other oil leaks on the newer diesels.I have had one rear main seal replaced and it is leaking again with only 13000 miles. This was a replacement truck for the o3 lemon that I had.Love the truck no running problems.IT is an 05 f350.

is it leaking or just wet. ford uses assembly lube that will melt and wet the bellhousing. park over some paper or cardboard and see if it is dripping.

Or it's the glow plug harnesses. I thought mine was leaking when we pulled the motor and the flywheel area was clean. You could see where a little lube had been sprayed outward from the flywheel, but it was really old. What I saw on the underside of the tranny housing was fresh and had run down and around and made it look like a "rear main" leak. I'd look elsewhere. The black color makes it hard to see an oil leak, especially if it's really clean. Sometimes dirt is a good tool for diagnosis. I'm not saying throw dirt on your motor by any means, but the oil will leave a trail if it's any volume at all.

After following the oil leak threads for a long time and having one myself, I've determined that the bed plate is responsible for aLOT of leaks attributed to the rear main seal. The techs who post on the boards say RMS's are NOT common.
