Ok i just got a 1984 ford f-250 with a 460. Well i noticed the left side of the bed only towards the end behind the axle, was sagging about 3 inches maybe. Well the front of the bed isn't off, and the aftermarket bubper even sags with the bed. This was a farm truck, so does anyone possibly think the frame could be bent? (I sure Hope not) What could it be? The frame isn't cracked or very rusted. Can anyone give me some clue as to what's going on? thanks.
Make sure to check the truck on level ground. Where I park mine in my driveway, It looks off by 2 to 3 inches as well. On good level ground the bed is within specs.
Also check for a busted or worn out spring, or shock absorber. that will make it sag on one side.
The bottom of the bed might be rusted out. There are supports that go horizontal to the frame rails onthe bottom of the bed. They may have rusted out and compressed making the bed sit cockeyed.
No you can't move the bed. It seems pretty sturdy. I know the shock absorbers are shot, they're all rusted up. I'm pretty sure if I change those it won't be so bad. How do you put the wooden bed in? ABout how long would it take?
My truck has the same problem, but I have not figured it out yet my self. Its not bed mounts if your bumper is sagging too. Mine started with a "bang" so I dont think its a bent frame. I cant find anything broke. Let me know if you find anything,I'll do same.
Check the springs over top of the axle it is possible that the spring is broken right there and you don't see it unless you look closely. Count the springs on both sides. Look to see if there is a bend in the main spring or if the bushings are worn. Some Farm trucks can get loaded down way over limits I know I've done it Oh its only 60 bags of fertilizer at 50lbs a bag then bounce over the field to the drills.
Hope this helps
Check your rear leaf spring hangers!!!!!!!! I have a 1996 F-150 with 121,000+ miles on it and taken very good care of and they rusted out!! and allowed the rear leaf spring shackles to go all the way up to the bed floor!!--About 3" to 4". They are not real hard to replace if they are the problem. And are about $20.00 a piece at Ford!! Good Luck!! mercuryman54
I would agree with the springs or hangers. The key is that the bumper and bed both sag.
Start with the basics, check the hangers and springs as recommended.
There is a possibility the frame is twisted and lifting up the opposite side making the sagging side sag. Measure from the top of the axle to the bottom of the frame on both sides. After that it gets tougher to decide if it's a spring or frame.
