I posted earlier about my truck at times not having any power. I brought it in again for some look see and they did a power balance, ICP is fine, everything else checks out to spec. My problem is the truck acts like I am always starting out in fifth gear. dosn't matter if in forward or reverse, truck just dosn't want to move some times. I originally thought it was just when it was cold, but about two weeks ago, I had just climbed a pretty good grade, in 4wd LO. shut truck off for maybe 5-10 minutes and then truck acted like I was starting up in high gear. (autotranny) It does this after pulling the trailer, I try to back into a spot, and truck acts like it has no power.
From the service writer, "They are well aware of this problem and have quite a few trucks exhibiting the same symptoms. Ford does not have a fix yet, and is continueing to look into this problem."
As a comparison, my truck WILL NOT spin the tires. Not that I want to spin my tires off, but on ice, or rain slick roads, I can accelerate with a lead foot and not worry about breaking traction in 2wd. A co-worker just bought a 2005 truck identical to mine (except it runs) and he commented how he has to be careful on rainy days to keep from spinning the tires. My 03 would spin the tires also.
One of the checks the dealership does each time is to verify correct boost. I believe it is getting the full 26#s.
The air cleaner is stock, and clean, it has done this since new.
Just curious, they seem to check this by hooking up to the computer port under the dash, which means it is an electronic signal. Could the truck be getting a bad electronic signal to the computer, and to the dash guage, yet still not working the turbo correctly?
the boost is actually assumed. the map and baro are the inputs to actually give a measurement in psi within correlation of the ebp to where the vanes are in posistion on the amount of boost. you could put a gauge inlinewith the map sensor and get a manual reading, but usually it is right along with the computer.
Had the dealer tell me that my turbo was at 26 pounds boost and the truck ran like crap..... After some yelling and screaming that it wasn't right, Tech did a few checks and found that the turbo was bad. I would not assume just because there is full boost that the turbo isn't bad.
It sounds like you need to have your turbo taken apart and cleaned. There is a TSB for this. I don't have the number handy, but I'm sure someone will come along with it.
If the dealer is not taking care of your concerns go to another dealer and try to find one that has more than one deisel tech.Their are alot of dealers and techs that don't have a clue how to fix the 6.0L

I have heard this enough on this forum, I have made an appointment with a dealer in the next town. I gave him a list of problems for him to look at, and hopefully he can correct at least some of them. Goes in Wednesday, I will keep you posted.
Please note: This dealer is 75 miles away, and I have to rely on someone to drop the truck off and pick it up. A big PITA.
Got the truck back. Sent the truck to the dealership with a list of 7 initial problems, listed from most important to least important. They may have fixed #4, won't know for sure until I get more drive time. For #4, which consisted of the cold driving issue where it would feel like it was searching for a throttle position, they reflashed with a recent flash that now cycles the fuel pump/injectors ? for 30 seconds AFTER the key is turned off. I had read about this on this forum, brought it to my dealer, and was told this was for 03's only!
This new service dept. thought they new what one of the most pressing concerns, and definitely the most dangerous, that being the bucking and jerking when pulling the pass @ 1700rpm. They pulled the EGR, but it was fine, "nice and clean" as service writer called it. Back to the drawing board on that again.
On the issue of no power, they had the kahunas to suggest that it is just the trucks nature. The truck is all drive by wire, and sometimes the electronics are slow to respond to changing conditions. Of course I didn't buy that line.
As for the rest of the issues. Unless it throws a code, they can't do anything.
I am getting more frustrated by the day with this truck and fords complete lack of assistance in correcting the problems.
i was thinking what if its transmission related. and everyone is looking at the engine. torque conver lock-up. or 4whl drive issue solenoid sticking. just a thought
Truck has been in the shop for the bucking and jerking about 15 times, many more times I have cantacted them (the dealership and ford CS) reported the problems and asked for solutions.
Raptor131:
It may be tranny related, but I highly doublt it. It has been checked and checked out ok. I believe it also will throw codes if it tries to do something out of the ordinary.
