Cool Console on fire.

Well my moms 2004 F-150 seemed to have lost lights in the console to light up the gears. I thought nothing of it I just said take it to ford they should warenty it. After all the truck is only two years old and has about 49 000 miles.(and extended warrenty) Well while driving yesterday she smelled wires burning. Fallowed by a heat on her leg. When she pulled over the console was on fire. Well she called ford to fix it they told her to drive it down. Well she got there and all they did was take out the bulb that caught the wires on fire. When asked what they were going to do about the meltef console they said "Thats your fault, doesnt require us to warrenty." Well last time I checked ma never pulled here new truck all apart to find a way to set it on fire. Now call me crazy but I'm thinking this is a defect in the FORD TRUCK.

With the warrenty work we have had done on this truck I can honestly say I would never buy a new Ford truck. Yes I will continue to buy ford trucks but never new and never from a ford dealer. The dealers treat you like everything that breaks is your fault never theres. I'm sick of it.

Bob

The Ford dealer service in my area has the the bs attitude. Its like they've done you a huge favor by servicing the truck you bought there new. Ford needs to do a lot of improving with there dealer / customer service skills. By the way, I second the notion on getting some outside help. A few letters written to the General Manager of the dealership should get you some response.

Ford Canada decided they would say its not honored by warrenty. They said put it through your fire insurence. Now I ask you, why should someones insurance rates go up because their truck caught on fire because of a defect in the truck?

Well I'm using the word defect to describe that it was the truck's fault. Not my moms. Now I could be wrong but I always considered a truck catching on fire is a defect.

i am not trying to say whos at fault. its just with warranty and fires there's a fine line. i have seen some issues within the deactivation switch where ford and the insurance gets involved to solve fire issues. call your insurance company and their lawyers can decide to go after ford or not. i doubt anything will come out of it because unless it gets investigated no one can ever know.

I can tell you exactly what happened and it was becase something moved or broke on the truck. Its much easier to stand up for ford motor company when your not the one there trying to screw over.

Wasn't intending to make it seem that way. Now while your being realistic ask yourself if you were driving down main street and there were flames by your leg would you not think it should be warrentied?

Like was said above, turn it into your insurance company. They are a lot bigger than you and have a lot more money than you. They deal with this daily. If they feel FOMOCO is responsible, they will make it happen. Their attorney will handle it.

Your facts are so minimal that members accusing Ford of anything is unrealistic. What is written on the work order as the fault found, cause and the correction? Unless it was a covered item the warranty would not cover the replacement for the console. For a dealer to say "its your fault" they would have had to find something tied into the wiring that the customer installed or circumstances that the customer initiated like jamming hardware into the wiring loom and that forced the short to occur. I would get a written description of exactly what the technician found and what his determination of the cause and description of the repair. If it was indeed due to a covered item failure you can call ford customer relations and Im sure they will help. Go through your selling dealer if at all possible.

If it is damage caused by a covered item you have plenty of reason to complain that they didnt fix all related damages.
If that is not the case and you are just looking to get something for nothing you should own up to the truth. IMHO

I'd post, but I don't want to throw out any " Blanket statements". Good luck getting Ford to fix your truck.
