Anyone out there know what an original jack for the 56 f100 looks like?? I would like to purchase a complete one for the girl. She has a couple of things missing but no rust and she runs great.
Hi big window ford-and welcome--I have I think 2 jacks and 1 handle for the 56 .I will ask 10.00 and shipping if that is ok.I will have to dig them out and see if they are still ok.--Let me know if that's a fair price.--BILL
BIG WINDOW FORD--I have to look in my barn ,first--but should have my 1956 ford truck jack from my 1st 56--and they were screw type--with a jointed handle.I will let you know when I dig them out.Bill
do a search for past threads on the jack. I know there were pictures and descriptions. Someone even has a part # for the jack (it or one like it) was used up into the '70's.
The jack is the same all the way up until the late 80's in F-series trucks. You can also grab one from a Ranger, 83-89 or the F-150's, it's identical right down to the hole in the base, so you can mount it to the floor in the 48-52 trucks. You can also get the crank handle ( 82Y 17081-B ) brand new from Ford! I pulled the jack from my old 84 Ranger when I traded the truck in and compared it to the original in my 50 F-1 and it's the same. I traced the original part number thru many supercessions up into the late 90's. it's a screw jack.
The ones from the later model explorers have a nifty star shaped plastic handle on the jack that you can turn by hand. The older ones were hard to turn by hand to run up to the correct height or to lower it when done. Thats what I will look for in the spring.
I have always wanted to do a custom but I just keeping putting them back original. Some to drive and others to show. I maynever use the jack but i would like to have an original under the seat.
Question #1: If the 48-52 trucks had a bolt to hold the jacks in place, did the 53-56 trucks have a specific place to put the jack? Or did they just put it under the seat or in the space behind the seat?
Question #2: I have asked this one before: My literature says the trucks came with a "jack and tools." What does the tool look like? and was there a place for the tool? Was the tool just a lug wrench and a hubcap popper? Anyone know?
Based on what I see the jack is mounted under the seat with a strap and spring. I haven't taken the a real good look to see if it is original. Although this truck has not been retored and is very solid there have been a couple of tings changed over the years.
Barry,
Take a look at my gallery and tell me if the picture I have of a lug wrench and hubcap popper is the tool you are talking of? It was in my truck when I bought it from my grandfather. I assusmed it was original but never saw a picture of another like it in any Ford Literature I have. Also, it does not have the FORD name or logo on it.
Thanks!
