Hey, I'm installing a starter button on my '65. I still intend to use the key and ign switch (turned to "on"). Which wires do I need to remove from the stock switch to the button?
For nothing more than I just think it is cool. Kind of like starting a race car I guess. I put it in an empty hole on the dash on the right side of the steering column.
You can run 2 wires to the starter selinoid, 1 wire to the battery side and one to the small post next to the battery side, sticking out of the front of the selinoid. Then run the wires into you switch. This is the eazy way and you don't need to cut any wires.
Easiest way to figure out which wire is to compare the wire colors on the back of the switch to the ones on the starter soliniod. Take the one off the back of the switch and add a few inches to reach the button then take the other button wire and connect it to the switched power.
It should be connected in the following if that doesn't make sense. Key hot wire to the button then to the soliniod. Make double sure you only connect it to a keyed hot so no one can "barrow" your truck when you don't intend on them doing so.
