First you need to figure out which tranny you have. The E4OD has a transmission pan with 20 bolts. The AODE-W (4R70W) has 14 bolts. You need to get a transmission that will bolt up to your engine and has the appropriate tailshaft for a 2WD or 4WD. The E4OD was introduced in 1989 and phased out in 1998 but 1996 was the last year for the Windsor engines (those with a bellhousing bolt pattern like your 5.8L engine). Look for a 96 or older E4OD that was on the 4.9L six cylinder, 5.0L or 5.8L engines. The later models are better than the earlier ones. I don't know what effect it would have but the 96 and newer E4OD's use a high impedence solenoid and the earlier models use a low impedence solenoid. 97 and 98 were only on modular motors and won't fit.
