shot FoMoCo dizzy

Hey guys,
The stock distributor in my 1978 400 is shot and I need a new one. Any suggestions for possible higher performance dizzy's or should I just stick with the stock setup? I would like to try and rid the engine compartment of all those ignition module things - gonna be a show truck when done. 1978 F250 Crew cab undergoing complete frame up resto. Not really concerned about price of new dizzy - just want something that works and is not a pain to hook up.
Any guys using the DUI distributors? How good are they?

The DUI would definitely clean up the wiring. I have never used one, but everyone who writes in the forum have good things to say about it.

MSD would be another choice with a MSD 6 offroad box. I never got my dist in because of other problems, but I did replace the duraspark with an offroad box. It was a nice mod.

ReAX - does the MSD box plug right into the wiring harness that used to plug into the duraspark box? Someone told me about the MSD 6AL, will this box plug and play as well or any wiring mods that you know of? Do you still use the stock Motorcraft dizzy?

MSD has a good site. If you you go there you can find all their instruction manuals. I believe some of it is plug and play if you order the correct harness with the box.

But the MSD box would be a "module thing" that you would have to find a spot for. And you would still have about the same number of wires as the stock system. But it is supposed to work better than the stock system at low rpms and idle speeds.

On mine, I didn't want the stock wiring. I used the stock dist, which is optional, I used two wires from it and then I used the wiring in the 6 off road harness. Two wires went to the dist, two went to the coil, two went to the battery and one went to my tach.

Yes, if you trace them you can use the duraspark harness. I wouldn't.

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our D.U.I.-Davis Unified Ignition or our custom curved Duraspark distributor. Please see them at:
