I have seen past posts regarding changing these, and there seem to be differing opinions as to whether or not it is a wise thing to do on the pre-05 V-10s. There seems to be a potential for exhaust "flutter", or vibration & such because of the exhaust pulse timing, etc.
A short time ago I bought a new Y-pipe off e-bay, and it sure looks like a better piece than the one that's on my '04.
Before I have the old one cut off and this one welded in, does anyone have any real-world experience with changing these?
Noise, vibration, "fluttere", leaning, etc. problems?
ALL opinions are welcome here, since I'm not promoting anything, just want to know the real deal.

Reason: spelling
You will definantly hear the exhaust pulses. The factory spaghetti Y-pipe was solely designed (seemingly) with eliminating the "noises" and didn't care about power characteristics. However, that is all speculation.
I hear "flutter" or exhaust pulses at certain RPMs. I wish I woulda done that mod first and then put on my Banks exhaust. I would have been able to see (felt?) if there were any differences with just the Y replacement.
I think Monsta is correct and not speculating on why Ford designed it that way. As far as noise after a y-pipe mod, yes I have flutter at about 1800-2200 rpm on hard acceleration. Seeing that the ebay pipe is real close to my Stan's pipe, I would guess you will end up with some flutter. You will feel a power difference. As far as if it is worth the flutter noise, that is up to you.
I have flutter at about 1800-2200 rpm on hard acceleration.
Is the "flutter" apparent mostly upon hard acceleration? Is it there when just cruising along @ 1800-2200 rpm? Is it suttle, or does it really annoy you?
If it is there only upon acceleration, I sure can live with that!
Just cruising, not there. If you go hard from stop sign to stop sign, you will notice it and to ME it is slightly annoying. However, I feel the benefits out way the annoyance.
If I remember right, the e-bay guy has before and after results.
I pic's are too small to read and I can't figure out how to blow them up. Besides I wouldn't trust the data from someone doing the selling. I'd rather see independent testing. There must be someone out there? Heck the Mustang guys are always sitting on the dyno testing their super dooper mod of the week. Where is the deep pocketed V10 SD owner?

I bought the same one on ebay. I think it was close to $100 by the time I got it shipped to my house. I didn't notice any sound difference at all from it though very shortly after a couple manifold or should I say a couple more manifold studs popped and I got a real loud exhaust sound. Whether this had something to do with it or not, don't know? I will say though that when you do have it installed check there work. Roll under and feel for leaks and even look at the tops of their welds with a small mirror if you got one. It takes four good welds and I had to take mine back for them to get it right to stop the extra noise I was getting.
