hey everyone, well my question is, has anyone purchased new remotes from the dealer for there trucks? and is it easy to program the romote to my truck or is it something ford dose when ur there? and what did it cost you? i only recieve one remote and one key from the used dealership when i bought my truck and the remote looks kinda beat anyways.
You can pick one up on fleabay for around $15. The programming instructions are somewhere on this site if the seller doesnt include them. The dealer wants $50 (last time i checked) for a remote. That, or you can always have an alarm installed.
When I bought my truck the previous owner told me that he lost the remotes. I bought two new ones off of Ebay for 12 bucks and I re-programmed them in my driveway in about 5 minutes. I kept the procedure in my truck's binder at home and can send a copy of it to you if you want. It's easy.
Call your dealer with the VIN number and they will tell you if it does or not. I did that before I bought remotes just to be sure. Also, if when you hit the lock button and close the door if the lights blink that is also an indication of having keyless.
I went to a hardware store and had some made but they are kind of plain. I would like to get a couple of the nice factory ones made but I haven't had the time to look around for the blanks.
ebay it is, and i saw a pair of remotes on ebay for 21 bucks, some where around there. and there are tons on ebay to.
now, about those extra keys that i need to be made? go to the dealer or no? local key shop?
I get mine at walmart. They charge .50 more to add that nice plastic on the end. I dont think you can get a copy from the dealer for $1.50, but then again, I stay away from the stealer as much as possible.
The remote programming instructions are in your Owner's Manual. You DID read it cover-to-cover when you first bought the truck, didn't you? ;-)))
I bought a friend a spare for his Excursion. When I went to program it into his EX, the procedure didn't work. I looked in his O/M, and the procedure was actually different! I used the different one for the EX, and it worked just fine. If I recall, instead of the on/off cycle five times, it was seven for the EX.
i have no owners manual for my truck. wouldnt the ford dealer just tell me how to program it over the phone if the instructions that come with the remote dont work? that, or just ask you guys the different ways to program.
This is from memory, and since I turned 60 yesterday, I don't remember as well as I once did. Forgive me if I'm giving you a faulty procedure if I have missed it.
Get all the remotes (up to four) that you intend on being programmed for your truck. Get in the truck and close all the doors . Put the key in the ignition and turn from OFF to ON (not start) five times within ten seconds, stopping the fifth time at ON.
The door locks will cycle on and off once.
Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote. Again the locks will cycle.
Again within 20 seconds, press any button on the second remote. The cycle happens again.
Again press any button on the third (if there is one). Same thing happens.
Again press any button on the fourth (if there is one). Same thing happens.
Turn the ignition off. Locks should once again cycle.
Check to be sure all four (or whatever number) all actually work.
