Yeah, but we'll give some notice for the next one.
Yup.
Well, Malcom hooked up his adapter & light and I guess I'm either getting a better "feel" for these diesels, or getting luckier. Light showed it to be about 9.5-10 degrees TDC, or about 1-1.5 degrees fast at 1300 RPMs. Not too bad for a rookie setting it by ear
Before heading up to Malcom's place I filled 'er up & calculated my mileage. 11.2 mpg - 95% of which was all BEFORE installing the IP.
After the 95 mile round trip from the Shell station in Kent, to Malcom's place in Monroe, and back, 13.8 mpg. And that's with me running 65+ mph most of the way both directions. Not quite fantastic, but a little better than a 3 1/2 mpg improvement. Not too shabby considering its a used pump & used original injectors that cost me nothing but a few hours labor to install.
Running Diesel Kleen through 'em has gotta' help, so I'm expecting it to get even better from here. Adding a new, larger, free-flowing exhaust and dual ram-air won't hurt anything either.
Did you guys move the timing or leave it at 9.5/10 BTDC?
It was raining, so we didn't mess with it, but since I now know "where I'm at" and about how much to move it to retard it a degree or two, I can adjust it later - if I decide to.
It sounds and runs so good right now I may not even bother with changing it.
