New comer to the site and truly appreciate the love for a Great SUV!! But alas a problem that I have not been able to correct. I'm currently on my 3rd alternator, luckly I have not had to do the work myself. First one died on a short trip to visit friends, as luck would have it I was at Walmart and shortly after purchasing 2 new batteries and a voltmeter that plugged into the lighter, we were on our way. The alternator was not charging so had it replaced, I couln't figure out how to get to the tensioner on my 2003 PSD 6.0 without removing half the engine! The second alternator worked for 2 weeks and now the third seems to be acting up after driving for more than 25 miles, probably due to increased heat in the engine compartment as opposed to just daily driving. When taking the X into my mechanic he says the alternator is working fine...anyone had any issues like this??
On a brief trip we topped off with fuel and my X was turning over slowly but did start. I noticed the voltmeter@12.8 volts. That is when I took it to my mechanic the next day but the voltage then was @13.9. That is when of course he could not find any thing wrong...any ideas??
