i have a new to me 2000 f150. it has the keyless entry system on the door handle, however the dealership didn't know the code. i was wondering if there is a way to reset it and program a new number into it without going to the ford dealership. also, i think that the ignition key has a chip in it as an anti theft device. is there anyway to disable this feature in the wireing harness? i only have one chipped key and would rather not spend $200 on a new key, when i already have a regular key that cost me $5 at a locksmith. my friends camaro had this feature as well and they just soldered a resistor into the wire to disable the chip feature. i was wodering if there is a way to trick the ecu. thanks guys
never heard of the resistor trick. you can get a key with a chip on e-bay for about $15. then you pay Wal Mart $2. to cut it to fit your truck. then you go to FORD dealer and pay him $40 to program it to your computer. They charge a fortune for the key and to cut it, you can have that done yourself. Call and ask them what the charge is to program it.--- the keyless entry code is on a sheet inside the drivers manual booklet. there is a plastic card attached, if you have the booklet. If not, there is suppose to be a place where the code is written, like on the computer plastic case or something... i dont know the exact location on the F150.
have your dealer use the wds or the ids "body" function---then "keyless entry door code" They might charge you a fee, but there is no reason they cant get it!

i would do what he said minus the pay dealer to program, you can program your own key i think. search around this and other forums and i think youll find it. it takes like 15-20 mins and is kind of a pain in the ***...but its free. i belive i didnt dream this up but its possible i did
you can program a chipped key your self you dont need the dealership to do it for you. I dont re-call the exact method but you have to put the key in and turn is to on and off so many times. I had a key cut and programed at my local hardware store for $45.
You can only program additional PATS keys on a 2000 if you already have two functional keys already programmed into the PCM. If you only have one, you will require either a dealer or well-equipped locksmith to program the 2nd key into the PCM. After you have two keys, you can do them yourself. The instructions are in your owner's manual on page 117.
GM used resistor keys for awhile back in the 90s. That's why the resistor trick worked on the Camaro. Ford has NEVER used such a system.
The factory default keypad code should be on a sticker on the RAP (Remote Anti-theft Personality) module. The RAP module is under the dash up above the fuse panel. Once you have the default code, you can always program a personalized code. The procedure is in your owner's manual.
If you don't have the original manual, download a copy from www.fleet.ford.com under MAINTENANCE.
Project is correct, I had the same problem when i bought mine, luckily one of the salesmen used to be a ford salesman and knew where to find the code. The keys are rediculous to have made if you only have one. But most locksmiths have the equipment to do it. Good luck.
awsome, thanks for all the replys guys!!! i'm not sure if there are 2 keys programmed, i would assume so, however i just have the one key. is there any way to know if the pcm has one or two key programmed? or is it just stick in the new key and if it works then great....if not i need to get it done? i will look for the default code on the r.a.p. will i be able to see it from the fuse panel peice from the dash, or do i need to stick my head underneath the dash by the pedals? thanks again guys, this forum is a life saver!
The locksmith told me that if I tried to start my truck without the chipped key it wouldn't start, so i would be carefull using one without the programed chip. Let us know if it works though, maybe I got snowballed.
if you put in a bad key, or a key that dont work, the starter will not crank. just take out the key, wait a few second, put in the good key and try again. the good key should work. if not, wait a minute and try it again and it will be o.k. that is the anti theft part of the truck. always keep 3 keys for your truck. if you have two and someone looses one, you are i big trouble as we mentioned above.
