I have dropped the front tank because the guage reads empty all the time on this tank. I checked connections and electric and all seem fine. Question is how do you unhook the fuel lines from the pump? And is the fuel guage sending unit built into the pump?
The guage unit has 3 screws holding it to the pump. Remove these first
The fuel lines on top of the tank on the outside require a tool for them to be removed.
The lines going into the pump itself should be connected by a flat piece of tin.
VERY GENTLY pry the lines upward with a flat screwdriver from under that peice of tin.
G E N T L Y the two lines and one deadend line should slide out in unison
You lost me with "lines going into pump itself"? I have the tank on the ground and need to unhook the lines that hook to the pump (top of the tank) I believe this is where I need the special tool, right? Then after that I pull out the pump, are there more lines inside? Also how do I relieve the pressure off of the lines before I pull them with the special tool?
1)Crack your gas cap, to release SOME pressure 2) The tool costs 5.00 at the auto parts store and looks like a pair of scissors. close the correct size(5/16 or 3/8) around the end of the line and slide the tool towards the line. This will release it and SOME GAS WILL COME OUT..................But just a little. do this to both lines, Unplug the electric feed, and disconnect the vent line. Put the tank out where you can work on it( Bench or Tailgate). Try to rotate the ring on the sending unit if you can. IF YOU CANT, very carefully use a reg screwdriver and and work at the ring. DONT bend the tank flange or the sender plate (TOP).
Once you've done this you can work out the whole unit and separate the pump from the sending unit and guage.
