Could anyone tell me what the color code letters and names of colors are for a 55 F-100. Mine has a letter "X" on the Vin tag for the color. I've been researching the color codes but I've never seen an "X" for one of the code letters.
According to Truck ID book I have (only reference that I can quote), the X refers to month of production, this case October (of second year), for year of 55. Only X in color description I saw in book was starting for 57 Ranchero, then 58 up.
mfatdad,
what ID book do you have? My Vin tag has a letter "X" in the color code box. The original color on my truck looks like an aquatone blue, but when I went to my local Napa auto parts store they told me the "X" stands for Goldenrod Yellow.
My Vin in the glove box matches the Vin stamped on the frame rail. So, all I can figure is maybe someone changed all of the body components from another truck which is the aquatone blue color.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Aug-02 AT 02:50 PM (EST)]I have an old builder's guide with reprints of the codes on the ratings plate. It shows Aquatone Blue to be code 'C' and Goldenrod Yellow to be code 'V'. There is no code 'X' for colors for '55.

I wrote a letter to Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn about the mystery of my paint code. They told me that there have been non-standard colors offered on Ford trucks bought in quantity, but they cannot be decoded using available information. Also, after posting my original question, I found another guy with the same paint code. Both trucks were originally titled in Texas. I'm still stumped!
Glad to hear that there are others out there with my same confusion. I too have a 55 F100 that is Aquatone Blue. (the before picture in my gallery shows it). My VIN plate in the glove box also has the X in the color code. My truck was made in Atlanta. On another note does anyones 55 have the original round tube radio?
