How to wire driving lights

I bought a pair of driving lights that i am going to mount on the rear of my truck to use a reverse lights. I want to wire up the lights so i can manually turn them on and off. The lights came with a switch and a relay but no fuse. I am going to get an inline fuse for them. My question is do i have to use the relay or could i just wire them up with the switch and no relay. And what makes a good ground on the truck ( frame, any thing metal ??)

thanks

Most lights in that category have a fairly heavy amp draw and normal toggle switches dont handle it well. Relays have heavier contacts and quicker open/close cycles so less arcing occurs under high amp conditions

I know the relay is 30amps . The instructions use the relay when you are hooking them up into your regular lights. So you would suggest using the relay even if i'm running the lights seperately?

Yes!!

30 amps will cause repeated failure of most toggle switches.
relays are not that hard to wire.
