i have a 05 f-350 and am installing a LOC to the factory head unit. It says its best closer to the amp. Should i use the rear speaker wires for this or wires from behind the dash. The reason i ask is some people have said the stock wires have filters to eliminate the low frequencies. I also need to know what to use for a remote wire to turn the amp on and off. Not a toggle switch but something more effective and that i dont have to remember to shut off. I have the soundgate LOCX line out converter. I looked in the audio forum for a long long long time with no luck and i cant use the search feature which seems odd.
Thanks in advance, Eric
For a remote turn on you can use anything that is switched on with the ignition, really. There should be a customer access bundle of wires under your dash... one of which is switched 12+. As for your other concerns, I don't know what a LOC is.
Line out converter. i am looking for a 12v+ that comes on with ignition and acc. positions of the key. line out concerter installed just need remote wire...
Cuda's right about the "Customer Access" wire. It's run off of fuse #29 (10A) and it's located above the transmission hump, just behind the dash. If you stick your head up there w/a flashight you'll see the dangling wire that has a tag around it that say's "Customer Access". The wire is switched with the ignition. But I'm not positive whether or not this wire is hot in the "ACC" position. That you'd have to check.
I think you'll find the CA wire is ignition on only. You need to tap into another wire for both key positions; ing & access.
You could tap into the power source or cigar lighter wire but it is hot all the time. I think it is Black w/ red tracer.
Another thought is the radio hot wire. It is on in both the positions you are looking for. Can't remeber the color but I think it was something w/ blue . . .
