I recently read a post from fp_5 about the move from a 2 speed wiper switch to a intermittent switch. It sounded easy enough since my 2 speed switch was acting up
I purchased the switch from my local O’reilly auto parts and installed it. No problem except it does not work.
<O</O When I turn it to low or the intermittent nothing happens. When I turn it to high the wipers will jump slightly and you can hear the switch clicking. When I turn the switch to intermittent then back to the off position the wipers will cycle back to the park position. <O</O
Hey Kwinline,
I just came on line this moment and saw your post. Timing is everything!
You need a module to go with the switch, it comes with its own small wiring harness and fits plugs into the existing harness just like the standard switch.
BTW, what did u pay for the switch and where did you get it?
The module is called a Govenor and yes it's a factory, ford item. Try ebay or your local wreckers. You can use later model year assemblies as indicated in the other thread but I think the switch has to match the Govn'r.
Look at the brite side, your half way there!
If it is for the 76, you also need the proper governor for that year truck to make it plug & Play ( it is an interrupt harness that just plugs into the existing harness).... otherwise you have to make modfications to make it work.
It's too bad you already bought the switch by itself.
There a few users on FTE that have ad's in the classifieds for stuff like this.
As everyone has said, you need the govenor too. I think that 80s trucks through about 91 had these too. It should be pretty easy to find one at a bone yard. Good luck. By the way, they basically plug right in to each other. Some are a little different than others so be careful which one you buy.
You can find the governor or "delay module" in Fairmonts, Granada's and Mustang's and the like...It's the same module, just a different mounting bracket.
