Can some one tell me where I can purchase a new bracket for the leaf-spring? Is this a part you can only get new from the Ford dealer or will most auto part stores carry it?
You may as well replace the rear shackles as well while you are replaceing the hangers. They are known to rust just as bad. Your local ford dealer should have them also.
Thanks for the replies... I called the dealer for pricingn on the bracket and shackle. They want just over $20 for each. Probably should do both sides while I'm at it.
Anything else worth changing while I'm in that area?
Had the same problem with 93 ranger. Bottom of truck was undercoated when new. It was a plastic type coating that in time trapped water in areas that rusted out. Gas straps, trans mount bracket, cab mounts, front bumper mounts, leaf spring shackles and mounts.
Took a grinder and cut off rivets and replaced them for $20-25 each. Fun stuff!
The one by the gas tank pushed a wire through hole in frame and wrapped the wire around the bolt and pulled the wire through the frame till the bolt came through. Only 3/4 " space from tank to frame.
just did mine on my 94. picture of old one in my gallery. I also replaced the rubber spring eye bushing and all the bolts w/ grade 8 hardware then used rubberized undercoating to help protect the new parts. I used a torch to burn the rivets out just be aware of the wires on the inside of the frame. Good luck
I just did mine over the weekend....drivers side rear bracket and shackle.
$23-24 foir each piece. Just don't make the mistake and buy the nuts/bolts fromthe delaer($13 each for the long ones), get them at the local hardware store($2-3 each). :-)
