Hello everyone. I have a 1986 F-250 with the Dana 50 front end. It has a somewhat built 466, a 4 speed, and a Sterling rear with 4.10's and a Lock Rite. It revs pretty high driving around town, but not enough to bother me. However, going up the highway it stays at a pretty high RPM. I was offered a Sterling rear with 3.55's for cheap today. I also already have a Dana 60 front end that is 3.54 (i believe) that I was going to regear to 4.10 whenever I got enough money. I was wondering if I should keep the 4.10's and regear the Dana 60 or if I should buy the Sterling with the 3.55's. Also, if you vote for option number 2, I need to know if my brand new Lock Rite would be able to be put in the new rear end. Thanks, Austynn.
if it were me it'd be a no brainer! get the sterling! and yes they interchange as far as i know!
ditch the D50, finsih building the D60 and get the sterlign rear. if you tow with this truck do 4.10's otherwise i'd just stick to 3.55's unless doing 4.10's is easier/cheaper!

make sure the sterling is not out of a superduty, it will have an 8x170 lug pattern which is different than yours. sound like you are running a pretty good setup as it is, so if you want, i can just come get that dana 60 from you and you won't have to make any more changes.
Well I know it's out of an older truck, but I was just wondering if the different gearing would stop me from being able to swap my lock-right over to the other axle. Thanks, Austynn.

you should be fine. the gearing only affects the ring and pinion gear, not the spider gears. goto the powertrax web site and look up the applications for the sterling rear. the part ##s should be the same.
what size tires are ya running? My 4.10's and 35's are perfect for around town or on the highway. I stepped up from 3.50's, which were good with stock tire, but suck with the 35's.
The only thing that will prevent you from using the lockright in the new axle is if it is a ford trac loc limited slip diff, as your locker will not work with that carrier. Personally i'd keep the 4.10''s and regear the 60, i'd pick up that sterling up anywa to have for parts and and what not cause people will charge an arm and a leg if they know what they have.
