Exhaust

I have 1997 f350 and was wondering if I should just change the down pipe or get a turbo back 4’’ exhaust. My stock exhaust is in excellent condition, . I just don’t know how much of a difference if any a after market exhaust would make over a stock with a new down pipe. Right now the truckis 100% stock. What should I do?

hey quad,
You know what they say, go big or go home. but a 4 inch dp is big, guys around here say you have to beat in your floor pan to get it to fit. some guys will acually cut the floor pan and weld a hump there. i would honestly just get a 3" DP. but thats just my 2 cents.
the first 2 things i did to my truck was put a home made intake on it. if you do a search for it you can find all the Part #'s you need and directions to put it in. then i gutted my cat and muffy. but if your just going to get a new exhuast system id just wait and put that in and dont bother gutting it. again just my 2 cents. but with an intake and straigt exhaust you can really hear that turbo sing and watch ur MPG go up. then what i woudl do is get some gauges and a chip to go with it for starters. if you want to go really really big INJECTORS!! mauhahah.
thats how i would do everything IMO!
some other guys will tell you more info but i hope this will help
Mitch

Just replace the down pipe with a 3". Other than the cat the rest of the exhaust is very free flowing (even the muffler). The stock diameter is 3.5" so 4" is not that big of an upgrade.

Search some of the site sponsors. there all around the same price. but i would go with autometers for a brand, they seem pretty reliable.

I have bought gauge kits from dieselmanor.com before. They were complete kits with everything you need to install them.

i would do it all the first time. you will thank yourself later. i did the dp and cat delete the first go around. and then did the whole thing which req a new lower section of dp. if you have the mod bug you will wish you did it later.

its only a 1/2 but it helps.

quaders4ever97,

You'll see a quicker spool up on the turbo and lots lower EGT's as well. Getting a down pipe and a cat test piep is good does wonders for the flow arte, but gettinga full system like an MBRP that expands to 4.0 inches at 20-12 inches off the turbo is even better as the flow rate increases even more and the non mandrel bends in the stock system really decrease flow as compared. We stock all the above if you have any questions on them please call us.

IMO, get a full system. I know a guy who just got the DP. He gets the sound, but doesn't get the flow. I got a full system, and definetely notice the difference in fllow, and temp. Trash the cat, unlesss your state doesn't allow it, and like Mark said above, stock exhaust does not flow well. It's made for emission standards. A half inch and mandrel bends will make a difference! It's like getting a 6" lift and putting 33's on it, it just dont make sense!
