You mention the 'box'. What about the pump?

Does your truck have the power steering lines that goes to the hydraulic ram on front axle and the check valves on center link?

a 75 has power assist. it should take ATF. if its OE to that truck, it should have a garrison type i beleive.

there are about a million issues that the thing could have. ... pump, ram, control valve.. etc.

if you read above then you will see it takes ATF my friend. Not gear oil, not Power steering fluid, Not engine oil, Not brake fluid, Not water.

well like i said. there are several components that can cause the issue. i have no idea why you;ve settled on a pump... but the ram or control valve are very likley candidates.

Does the steering gear box have any power steering hoses going to the steering box?
Then the steering box does take gear oil. There is a plug on top, which is used to refill the steering box.

Are you talking steering pump or steering box?

Can you rephrase the other question?

The power steering system (pump, hoses, ram, control valve) run with power steering fluid, type F.

I am unsure what type of steering setup he currently has?
jeremy18, we need more info and answers to the questions.

so which type are you saying takes the gear oil? i have had pretty much every type of these trucks. i currently have a 73 250 retrofitted to a 75 ram assist. i put ATF in it.

the newer 77.5-79s take steering fluid.

Jeremy... if you do have ram assist, then there are 2 versions. post a pic and we can tell you which you have.

if either are bad its better to buy a rebuilt.
