I quit doing my ram air the way I was doing it & am going to do it the way you did. I like it the best I've seen yet.

Well, I did the PS two weeks ago - very shortly after doing my new exhaust. I just finished it by doing the DS yesterday. Not a BIG difference, but I'd say that it has a bit more get up 'n go when it comes time for a freeway passing maneuver. If I had done both sides at once, and done it completely separate from doing the exhaust, I'm sure the difference would have been much more noticeable.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. FWIW, after doing the scoop on the PS, I drove it for a couple of weeks and progressively hit bigger and bigger puddles at faster and faster speeds to see if it would suck water.

I'm happy to report that I've hit some pretty big puddles, fast and hard enough to completely DRENCH the windshield, and so far not a drop has made it into the air cleaner. The "corrugated" pipe with the 90 degree UP bend where it goes through the fenderwell into the engine compartment seems to trap any water droplets before they make it to the air cleaner.

Now if I was fording water as deep as the top of the front bumper, that might be a different story. I think I'd stop to disconnect the hoses at the snorkels first....

I would turn around and go home. lol My is a box van though.

Do you think one or two more of those lights could be hooked up to each side? To make it a little brighter during the day.

Sure, they are VERY low current draw. I have two in each scoop, but you could hook up a half a dozen of them per side if you wanted to - they'd still draw less power than the stock bulb.

I'm already thinking about relocating the light assemblies from their present locations in the top & bottom of the scoops and re-mounting them on both sides of the intake pipe instead. That would make them much more visible.

Why not just put 4 in each scoop? Top, bottom, left, right?

Right were the vent goes in to the tube is that what you are talking about?

Moing them back and puting them on the sides might work well too.

i definately love that idea. Not the most aesthetically pleasing, but then again i may be the only person who thinks this 21 year old paint job is stil lookin great to begin with (not to mention the huge wealth of tiny dings). Either way, i was thinking of something that may make it stand less. Possibly some black screen over it? I dont think that would hurt your intake of air. I would say maybe even paint the ducts black? Like I said, i dont know that it matters on our geezer trucks. just a though..

I kind of liked you idea of painting them black. I think I get to this I will at least try it and see what it looks like.

Well, FWIW, I left mine shiny zinc for the reflective benefits. Makes the lights shine out through the openings better......

The pictures I took were from a kneeling position in front of the truck. When you're just standing up and looking at them you don't really see the openings much. They kinda look like they might have clear lenses - like what the ricers put on their little fart-can machines

Did you consider a hood scoop along the way? If so, what made you decide not to do one?

Actually the lights are clear plastic with yellow LEDs - which are also clear until they light up.

I haven't gotten around to this yet - probably next weekend - but it isn't going to look much different - except when the light/turn signals are on. Then the light coming out of the opening will be much brighter and more direct.

I live in the Seattle area. It rains 200 days a year (average). I couldn't figure out any way to do a hood scoop that wouldn't result in sucking in a lot of water.

The duct-hose from these scoops makes about a 45* horizontal turn right after the scoops, and then makes a 90* vertical turn - straight up - going through the fender liner, before hooking up to the stock plastic hose to the air cleaner.

Between the turns in the ducting and the corrugations (it is spiral-wound aluminum flex-duct) the water that goes in never makes it to the air cleaner.
