I own a 2000 F-250 SD with about 100,000 miles on it..Went to run an erand this morning and noticed my speedo is not working and the O/D on/off light is flashing.. Also the engine light has come on and is staying on... The tranny is shifting fine, just no speedo now.. Where is the speedo conector and sensor? and could it be a bad connection to it(speedo sensor), causing the O/D light to flash? And the engine light to be on...
"OR" should I just take it to a tranny place? Have a good one in town here to go to, so guess it wouldn't hurt...
I was just hoping it might be something simple.....
All those symptoms point to a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). It's located on top of the rear axle, near the front center. There is one bolt and a wiring harness on it. Replace it and your problems will probably be gone.
I also forgot to mention that there was also a beeping sound comming from the dash.. I only came on twice and for about 3 minutes.. Also thanks Casey, and "WOW" enough warnings for just a speed sensor , I thought the speedo was gone, the trans was going to let go , and the engine was packing it in... All at once ... Well they say things happen in 3's so after I fix this she should be good for another 7 years ...
The VSS, is it an aftermaket part or a dealer only item...
That was it Casey!!!!! I upluged it, and cleaned up the plug and Speedo now works and O/D light is back to normal... "BUT" the engine light is still on.. Do I need to reset this or is something still wrong... But in another area???
