i pulled a heavy trailer the other day & my truck started shifting really hard. when i shut it off it would not restart. i bypassed the starter solenoid & it started & ran really rough. so i revved it then it idled okay. on the way home the overdrive on/off light was flashing. so i parked it. now it will only start the same way & the OD light stays flashing. i retrieved the diagnostics code, P0708 (transmission range sensor high input). does anyone know how to fix that. im going to call the dealer on monday or maybe a performance diesel shop, but i dont want to have to pay an arm & a leg to fix it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check the (TR) Tranny Range selector on the side of the trans for loose or corroded connections. The shift cable is connected to it and contains the neutral safety switch.
You can try moving the gear shift lever back and forth vigorously to see if your 'no-start' corrects itself. Also, try turning the key to start and simultaneously move the gearshift lever slightly up & down from the neutral position.
