I bought metra's reverse and replacement harness'. I soldier the two harnesses together and extended the rears to a line level converter. It made the amp install no cut and clean.
I did it that way because soldiering guns/irons and plastic dash boards are bad combinations once you get cut afew time and agravated. I was able to do most of the work at a table and then plug my harness in and route the wires.
What did you do, I have a 97 with the factory seperate amp(dont know where it is though) and want to install aMTX amp and read that the speaker output behind the head unit doesnt have enough signal for the aftermarket amp..what do I do Thanks
For factory amplified systems you can grab signal either at the OUTPUT of the factory amp or at the speakers. I recommend a high power line out convertor - dont get a cheapy.
Thanks, I bought a Scosche SCL-4. It was the only thing that Crutchfield had but was only 20 bucks. Can you give me the info on a good oroduct. Also the factory amp is tucked tight in a hole below the head unit(hard to access) and the front speaker wires, where they come through the flexible rubber boots between the door and jamb, come in to the cab so high up that you cant even see them....This shouldnt have to be so hard...Again thanks.
Can I get enough signal directly behind the head unit or do I have to get it from the factory amp (which I cant see how to access.) Accessing the front door speaker wires through the flexible rubber boot is hard also. I can access the rears as I fishe the wire thru the boot on the 3rd door. These 97 f-150 with premium sound seem to be a pia. thanks for your help.
I am adding a Rockford Fosgate 4 channel to power a set of thier components up front and some coaxials in back. I am already feeding a powered sub from the rear speakers w/ the speaker level inputs. I am told the 4 channel amps rear channel can also get signal from the rear speakers but I will run the rears to the Scosch LOC first as well as the fronts...just dont know where to get to the front speaker outputs easily.
