351 or 302?

Hi, I'm looking at buying a 95 f-150,4wd, with a 351. I've heard that the 351 is a good engine but is really hard on gas, compared to the 302! Is this true?

What is the hp difference b/t the two?

Are there any common problems with the 351 that I can look for?

Thanks!!

get the 351. Your gas mileage wont be that much different. You'll be much more happy with the 351. 302's work hard to push a big truck. Not good for towing, offroad etc. if the 351 has a c6 or e4od, do it

In my experience you're looking at roughly 18 mpg w/ the 302 and about 15 w/ the 351. Trans and rear diff gear ratios affect MPG as well.

Basically the 351 windsor and the 302 are the same design, the 351 is a higher deck hieght on the block and a little longer stroke, along with a few other minor changes you would hardly notice (IE larger valves, and larger head bolts) I haven't heard of any major complaints with the 351 or 302. Mileage is a little less with the larger engine but if you plan to use it for off road or towing/hauling you may appreciate the 351. Like Josh88 said the 302 does work harder to move the same truck down the road.

I actually get better milage with the 351.
Just like ol'reliable says. 5.0 works harder than 5.8 in a truck.

From: Concord, NC
IE larger valves
The EFI 302 and 351 use identical heads except for the head bolt size like you mentioned...
