WELL SOB!! I went by Christs's book and checked preload to be near .18 some at least .20 .. Come to find out the 66/352 is in a whole nother janra for preload.. Figures..
Thanks for the link Buck... Guess I know whats on the menu for next weekend.. might explain the engines odd idle that cant be traced down...(longer pushrods!!) are in need. Details to come.
Redmanbob, I'm in the same club, I will be checking vavle preload in a couple of weeks, my #7 cylinder has a miss, good spark but a miss, I think the pushrods might be too long. Compression test is good, spark is good. When I pull the plug wire on #7, there was no change in engine idle. I haven't checked the spark plug wire, but this spark plug wire has a good spark.
Well, um, a,a, a I uh , um er , changed my brand new cap. And, er , um , it seem to be running much, much ,much, better. Rookie mistake.
I blame my wife she made me clean up the yard the other day and I threw out the old orig. cap. It was a blue streak the "better than stock" lifetime warrenty one. In hindsight looking in the cap several times, the brass posts were off-center??
I can't say for sure %100 cause I caused another problem last night when I was fooling with it. I burned a hole in my cable shifter . And it's stuck in 1st.
Redmanbob, are there different preloads for the 352FE? Have you had a chance to look at the engine?
I don't have the Christ book, but I do have a bible.
I believe the miss is gone. I started it, much better. Idled with our shaking. Warmed it up. My tach died so I was trying to set the idle by ear. So I put it in D and listen adjust up a notch and : "HEY! I'm still moving" HAd to shut her down and have one of the kids move the gear selector to see what was happening. I melted a hole in the cable shifter on my header. I hated that quick silver thing anyway. So she's blocked up and stuck in gear. But it sounded a whole lot better. However I won't count my chickens before I have scrapple for breakfast.
bob
I'm ordering a unimatic shifter by B&M looks like a 4spd.
Christs book has preload at .10 -.20 and if you browse that link you posted up on the pushrods it clearly states
{Clearance between the rocker tip and valve should be between .100 to .200 for all FE?s but the '65 to '67 352. The 352 specification is .050 to .150. If there is more slack than is recommended, then a longer push rod is necessary to bring it into specification.}
I'll be reviewing the situation this weekend. NO$$ till then..
Just making sure. I always try to reassure safety first during all projects.
I had a buddy mine, messing with the transmission linkages, and he took the transmission out of park, and the vehicle rolled on top of him. Luckly his father was there to save the day. He has the scars on his back where the cross member bolts and vehicle were resting on his back.
