Hello again
Can someone post the proper procedure for LOCKING and UNLOCKING the HUBS.
Usually I first put the truck in 4X4 then go out and LOCK the HUBS.
Then to take it out of 4X4 I first go out and UNLOCK the HUBS then back in the cab to shift to 2-wheel drive.
Also can I drive with the HUBS locked and the vehicle in 2-wheel drive and just shift between 4X4 and 2-wheel when needed?
The way i've always done it was to lock the hubs first. I usually do it before I even get in the truck to leave if I think that I might need four wheel drive. That way I don't have to get out into the mud, snow, what have you. When you need it you just pull the lever back into 4-high either at a stop or depending on the year of your truck then your rolling but not acceltrating then just let'er eat!
It's okay to have the hubs locked up in 2-wheel drive. I do it 1 day a month to let the gear lube coat everything well. I have drove with them locked for a couple of tanks of fuel to see what kinda mpg I would lose and I can't even tell maybe 1 mpg. I have also found it to be helpful to use 2-wheel drive low range when moving heavy trailers and dragging things around on pavement or in hilly areas. Why use the skinny pedal when you have gears!
