Wink Turbo Trouble

??? Just joined the site, and thought that I might get some feedback on the sound that is coming from what I believe to be the turbo. It sounds like suction gone wrong, and then the truck feels like it is being pulled backward, until the suction releases, then it continues on like nothing happend. I have a long trip coming up this Friday to Maryland, and I just noticed this noise on the first cold night we had. Is this something that needs to be looked at before this long trip?
The truck is a 1999 F250 7.3L Diesel and has always been a gem for me on all my long trips.
Any help appreciated.

Is this happening after you first crank up when the engine is cold?

Hard to diagnose what your truck is doing from here, drop by your local technician and see what he has to say about it.

turbo trouble

Pocket.....
This only happened since the weather got real cold, but the problem only starts when the truck is up to running temp. I consider myself lucky since nothing major has ever happened and I have really not needed to visit a diesel mechanic. Being a female, I am always expecting to get taken advantage of once there. Just thought I would start with my own research first.

it sounds to me like a exhaust back pressure valve or ebpv. the valve comes on to help warm up the engine and should release when everything is up to temp. if certains reading drop below a set temp then it comes on and it will cut power. if you look under the turbo you will see a electrical connector that is plugged into the base of the turbo. unplug it and see if the issue goes away. also it could be a ebp sensor causing it to stay on longer than it should.

BowTieHtr....it could be the Ebp sensor. It does appear to stay on longer than before, I have been the only owner of the truck since 99. When I was on the highway last night, it did seem to ease up when warmed, in the past it would just go off and on quickly and it never caused power loss. Now, it sounds like its stuck on and releasing a ton of pressure. Thanks....

Yep, I had to unplug the electrical connection to the EBPV for the same reason. Look under the exhaust side of the turbo to the pedistal and you'll see a white electrical connection. Unplug that wire and the EBPV will be disabled. There's a wire clip that holds it on, so flip that clip out and pull the plug.
