Anyone here have a underbody, or backup cam? I put a computer and a nice little monitor in the bko, and have some inputs left over and this got the creative juices working....... again. I want to get one of the underbody cams and use it for a backup cam to make hooking trailers and backing into tight spots eaiser. Any body got any thoughts/experience on this?
they actually make kits that you can mount small video cameras on the tailgate or bumper just for backing up and parking. not sure you're gonna find a camera (without spending more for the camera than you did for the bko) that will stand up to the elements. you might could build a small enclosure thats completely sealed but you still have to deal with the jarring and vibrations to the camera.
http://cgi.ebay.com/License-Plate-No...QQcmdZViewItem I was looknig and found this. I dont think it would get to dirty. It would be kinda like your smiliie face diff cover, doesnt get muddy cause its facing the other way. I figure I'll have to be the ginea pig...........again.
Thinking I might go ahead and get one, its not to much. Some of those kits are booko bucks, so I guesss its worth a shot. I really need a webpage to put all this crap on...............................
The monitor I got to run the computer off of is a BOSS 8 inch stand alone dual input monitor. Quality looks pretty good on it, and it comes with a couple of different ways to mount it. Got it at pendegrass flea market. the guy threw it in since I got a "couple" of other things. *I thought about using a web cam in the back window, but I cant see out the window most the time anyway so that wouldnt do me any good. still working on the center console and comp part, so I'll get some pics of that tomorow.

I'd be worrying about theives if I got a camera mounted like that. It looks like it'd be really easy to steal.
it looks like it'd be hard to tell what it is! unless they are snoopin around up close in which case they are prolly gonna snathc what they can anyways! good thing about trucks like ours is that most ppl wouldnt think anything worth stealin is in them. not sayin anything about your truck drew, its just the truth!
not to mention the camera is only like $50.... better than some of the $500 systems!
cutts, this is how I did my monitor. It's got 2 rca inputs, one I'm using for the computer, and the other I'm going to use for the back up cam. I figure if I get real creative I'll use up some of the inputs on my all in wonder card and throw the ps2 or somthing in there. I mounted the comp behind my seat How it looks from the back Who needs a back seat?
Just reg old xp pro right now. The clarity is never great for any tv unless you go dvi or composite so its not the best, but it's readable. Now for dvd's or tv, the pic is normal, just like a tv.
how did you mount those down? i'm pretty sure you'd want to give them some cush to absorb all the bumps you'd encounter on the road. I'm thinking of doing the same thing but for the price of a little 7" screen I can buy a 15" lcd one off newegg and fab up a bracket to put it up infront of my radio/ac controls
mount what, the monitor? I just used the pivot bracket it came with. I was going to use a 19 inch lcd up front, but no room with the on board air panel and switches. I'm just going to mount my 19'' in the back somwhere, and I just threw the 8 up there cause it was free.
