I know this has been discussed in the past. I have done several searches in the forum, but haven't found the answer. Where can I buy a hood blanket for my 06? I have found some on the internet, but they have to be trimmed to fit. I prefer one that is already pre-fitted. I'm sure I could go to the dealer and order one, but I also know I'll pay twice the price for it there.
I tried a lot of different places but the shipping on it was crazy due to the awkward size. So I tried several dealers until I found one that sold it for $69. So you might want to try dealers just outside your town also.
It helps keep engine heat off the underside of the hood, which may also help save the paint job on the top side years down the road. There have also been a couple of reports of dents in the hood from the turbo hose being blown-off. I figure it is worth the money to prevent these two issues.
The older SD trucks came with one. I believe they deleted them starting with the 2005 model year, to save a few pennys.
The best price I could get was $106 plus tax. That was still better than the list for $130. I got it last week, and sprayed it with two cans of flat black spray paint. It's installed and looks great. Thanks for the hint on spraying it.
