Is it a 5 spd tranny?
It might be a zf tranny, they used them in 88 and later f250-f450's.
If it is a zf it should have two PTO covers, one on each side. They have a granny first gear and a overdrive fifth gear, great for offroad 4x4's. There is a difference between a gas or diesel tranny, the bellhousing is different. I hope this helps.
