For quick down and dirty ignition wiring (I was taught this by my older brother...we were hotwiring dad's 68 F-100 for a littel joy-ride);
Take a length of wire from the positive battery terminal to the positive side of the coil. Now, making sure the truck is in nuetral or park, Take a screwdriver and short across the starter solenoid from the big terminal (that goes to the batter) to the smaller terminal next to it.
typically the ignition coil will have to inputs; a 12 volt bypass circuit that give the coild 12 volts during cranking to give you a hotter spark, and a input that is run through a resistor to give you approx 5 or 6 volts for normal running. When you jumper over to this from the battery you are just eliminating the ignition switch, nuetral safety, and resistor from the circuit.
You need to make sure the points are set right also, a good down and dirty setting for the points is to set them using an old matchbook for a feeler gauge---approx 14 thousandths. bump the starter until the points are open, set the gap and away you go
Had the same problem the other day and suspected the coil. I felt it after cranking engine for several minutes and found it was HOT! Iassumed it was shorting out. A closer inspection revealed a crack in the coil. A quick trip to the auto parts store and it was back on the road. Good luck.
