I have a 2001 2wd v-10 with 111,500 miles. There is a whining noise coming from the transmission area when the engine is running. The transmission can be in gear or in neutral and the noise is heard. If the truck is rolling I can depress to O/D button and the whine will stop. Any ideas?
Hate to bring bad news, but I had the same problem in my old 2001 Expedition and it was diagnosed by Ford as a bad torque converter. Ended up having the torque converter replaced under warranty by Ford.
