I have the same setup and went with stewart warner gauges. They have the tear-drop and come in black or white face with chrome bezels. The place I got mines is www.speedwaymotors.com The prices was even the cheapest I could find on the net - $223 bucks for a complete set. I am using only 5-gauge set. The 6-gauge set cost about $10-12 bucks more. Their people were very helpful with the everything I need to know about setting up the 302/AOD combo too. No extra crap needed to get the job done. I highly recommend going to them first before Summit, Jegs or any other place. Item was received like 2-3 days after I ordered. Well other than that good luck and happy hunting.

I bought autometer gauges for my 54 because I wanted a tach, and it had to fit in the original space. So I had to built a custom gauge cluster. All the gauges are 2" except the speedo and tack, which are 3 1/8". Pics in my gallery.
I have the VDO "Cockpit Royale" in my '59 F-100. I am not overly thrilled with them. I'd go with the other two recommendations you received in reply's: either Stuart Warner or AutoMeter. If it didn't irk me so much to pay for gauges twice, I'd replace mine with either SW or AM.
oh, regarding the speedo cable: for the price of a new speedo cable, I'd replace it to ensure it's compatible with the 302. ALSO, I had to change the speedo gear at the end of the speedo cable where it screws into the tranny. But, that "may" have been a function of the tires (255/70X15). Just thought I'd throw that extra tid-bit at ya, since it came up when I went through it on mine...
Responce to #3 post.
I'm headed the same direction with VDO gauges in the plan along with tach. Going to use custom inst panel on my 53 adding the tach for total of 6 gauges. What is your complaint with VDO causing you to prefer the other brands? Also the Speedo is driven by Elec sensor mounted to tran.No Cable to fool with.
My complete plan is 5.0 EFI roller mtr W/ AOD tran from MK7 and Ron Francis Wiring. All the details not complete yet. May install mass air with more cam for some rock and rumble.

I'm also curious as to your complaint about the VDO gauges. I was considering SW wings or the VDO. What is your dislike about them. I bought one just to see how it would look in my dash, and really like the mounting sleeve. But needless to say that in itself is not enough reason to buy them.
Just installed VDO gauges in my 55. Had to change sender in tank that was provided and very simple with excellent instructions. Used electronic speedometer was a snap to set and like my gauges very much. Used a cast dash insert that fit with stocks holes. Looks good and works great.
