any easy cheap upgrades that can be done to help it out? what i am trying to do is build up my 89 f250 for pulling stock class for the old lady she has pulled it befor it pulled nice but as of now it has a 351 efi and she could only get it to 4000 rpm so i figured i might swap it for a 460 efi since efi seem's to be a bit more snappy and powerful that a carb set up and i could possibly get a upgraded computer and get mine reprogramed we dont wanna spend much cash but is there any thing that can be done to improve a 460 efi possibly bigger injectors maybe aftermarket fuel pump i am gonna run a fuel cell in it so i want to run a external pump if possible
Well they are still 385 series heads, so porting on the exhaust side would definatly help it always does.bigger injectors won't hurt ya, the pump should be good enough but put a adjustable regulator on it and bump the preasure up some. if you havn't then remove the stock air intake it's pretty restrictive. as I recall you need ot change the air measuring system on the early 460 efi setup others would be better suited to answer the best way to go there. if you have to run stock exhaust manifolds get them extruded honed (a way of porting that works in things like exhaust manifolds, you can do the same thing to the intake for better flow). If you pull the motor down, square deck the block and bring the pistons up to zero deck for better quench and more compression.
Theres a couple ideas to get started on teh basic engine.
