Anyone have some ideas for me? My 88 F-150 straight 6 has some electrical issues. The battery is being drained somehow, even without running the engine. When I fully charge the battery, within 2 days of sitting it's nearly completly dead. Once when charging the battery the EEC made some strange sounds. I changed it out, but still have the same problem. Battery and alternator test good.
When you say "charging the battery the EEC made some strange sounds" and if the key was off I do not think the strange sounds came from the EEC. The one you changed out was more then likely good.
First I would have the battery checked to make sure it is a good one.
If it is good take off a battery cable and unplug the EEC then hook a test light between the battery post and the battery cable. Make sure the hood light is not on and if the test light is on start pulling fuses.
If you pull all of the fuses and the light is still on unplug the three-wire plug on the alternator with the two large wires. If it goes out now you have a bad alternator, you can also unplug this first if you want.
Also make sure the dome light is not on while doing the test.
Sometimes an alternator will charge but still have a dead short. When running the alternator will charge but when the vehicle is parked overnight or after a couple of days the short in the alternator will pull the battery down. Another problem could be a short somewhere in the harness.
