I have been tracing down a squeak on my driver side front end, and I think I have nailed down to the leaf spring.
My question is where the rear of the leaf spring bolts to the shackle under the cab is there a square hard rubber like pad that goes in between the spring & the big bushing?
There is a pad under the passenger side but not one on the dirver side. I'm pretty sure thats where the noise is coming from on the dirver side.
I just had my front and rear springs serviced at the local spring shop. I also had broken/missing plastic pads. They are about 4"x4". I told the shop and they installed new ones when they added my third leaf up front. There isnt much to these pads. On my drivers side front where the pad had completely cracked, the two springs were wearing into each other with Metal to metal contact, this is were my squeak was coming from. Not good. Any way he installed all new pads up front. No more squeeking. The rear does not require any. He didnt charge me any more to replace these as this is a normal wear item that doesnt cost much. Hope this helps.
Ford issued a TSB on this for my late model 1999 F250 and installed new pads for free a few years ago. The noise was driving me nuts and I was shooting oil on the leaf springs every 100 miles until I saw the TSB. You might check that.
