I have an f150, 2002, 5.4 engine. It spits and sputters especially in wet weather, the dtc p0340 keeps showing up, I have replaced the camshaft positioning sensor and still have the same trouble. If anyone can help me here,I would greatly appreciate it.
This sensor begins the sequencial fuel injection timing. An error for what ever reason will interrupt the fuel and present it'self as a hard miss.
Is the connector secure, the harness faulty?
Is the new sensor faulty?
Is there a solid 5 volts to the sensor with the key on?
Is there an AC voltage from it when a metal is moved by it?
Is there excessive camshaft end play? The 5.4 spec is much tighter than a 4.6.
The sensor picks up a high spot on the cam gear as the trigger signal.
Look at the old one to see if the cam gear was hitting it's face or moving to far away to trigger reliably.
Good luck.
