I think I seen someone else do a tread a while back. Where I use to work until retiring this last spring we had F350's with the 7.3(not turbo) and they ran ran and ran without CPS, sensors, trannies, etc. going bad, so I bought a used 2000 F350 7.3 PSD auto 92000 seemed well maintained to pull a fifth wheel and do some traveling. I know all brands, gas or diesel have there problems, but I have to say with good intentions and I think this site is a very good site, it mays me nervous at times with the problems sometimes. My reasoning is that this is a drop in the bucket ( problems percentage wise) for the number of Ford diesels that are out there running the roads.
I think that maybe this group here on FTE might be talking a lot more about the "problems" that are manifesting due to the fact that most of us are gearheads and like to modify the trucks for more power. That always has a price where you must strengthen the existing design to handle the added power without leaving us stranded by the side of the road. So we type back and forth about the things we hear about the truck and not necessarily have it happen to us. At least I am guilty of that.
In stock trim about the only weak spot is the CPS and maybe the transmission if you flog it up hill with a huge trailer at full throttle. You've got a great truck as is without adding to it. You can make it an even better truck by spending the time and money to make it FAR more than Ford ever intended. If done properly you can retain the reliablility and still have more truck than you ever dreamed of owning. They really are sleeping giants and if awoken will amaze you with what they can do.
