Fuel Injectors in E350 Van
Fuel Injectors in E350 Van
Anyone here ever change fuel injectors in a van?
Ive got 7 of them out but I cant get get number 3 on the passenger side out.
There is not enough clearance between the body and the head to get the injector out far enough to clear the bore.
I tried denting the body with a long pipe for clearance and now Ive got a dent in my head to show for it.
Could I maybe pull the passenger side engine mount bolt to gain some clearance?
Would this actually gain me some room? It looks like it could make it worse.
Im also worried I might break a line loose somewhere.
Could this happen?
Also anyone ever use the ford injector replacement tool?
I cant really see having enough room to hit the inside ones with a rubber mallet.
How about gently pressing them in on the top of the injector with a crowbar or piece of wood?
Bad idea?

I've not done this but here is what the repair manual says. Hopefully ther may be someone else that has a short cut.
If removing injector 3 or 5, perform the following:
Raise vehicle.
Remove LH engine mount-to-engine bolts.
Raise engine.
Remove LH engine mount-to-crossmember nuts.
Remove LH engine mount.
Lower engine until oil pain is resting on crossmember.
Remove RH body mount-to-frame bolts No. 1 and No. 2.
Lower vehicle.
Remove RH body mount-to-frame bolt No.3. The bolt is located in passenger compartment under carpeting.
Raise body of vehicle on right side until fuel injectors are sufficiently clear of obstructions and can be removed without damaging the O-rings.

OMIGOD!!!
All that for 1 injector.
I'm really getting sick of working on this thing
Everything is a major fight.
Is that a cut and paste that says LH?
odd I would think RH or both.
My GF wants to set it on fire Im starting to get tempted about now to let her do it.

We who are blessed with the E series have many more problems than the F series. No only is it harder to get to everything, the vans have less power because of the heat build up in the engine compartment. I moved the batteries to the back and changed the intake for some extra room, but the injectors are another thing. Short of cutting the fire wall apart, I don't think there are any short cuts.

The instructions are for #3 & 5 injectors.....LH for #5 and RH for #3.
You GF may have the right idea
I don't think there have been any rearwheel drive vans that were much fun to work on. It's just not a great idea. GM's offerings were no better to work on as far as I can tell. For that matter - try changing the sparkplugs on a LT1 Camaro.
Don't get to frustrated. Have a beer and think about it and then try again. I know it is easy for me to say I have a F series but we have to fight the back valve cover bolts.

The gm rear wheel vans are super easy to work on. I used to do in-frame rebuilds on the small blocks with great ease. No need to loosen mounts to drop oil pan. heads come off from inside van. really really easy. I wish more attention was being paid to serviceability. My nephew has an old mercedes that you have to remove a crossmember to remove the oil filter. unbelievable. I guess we don't look at these things in the showroom. even the best vehicles need work now and then.
