52 steering question

Ok, got a question here, I got busy this weekend and was able to get my engine/tranny setup roughly where it needs to be within the belly of my beast, but I am finding that some of my clearances will be pretty tight (but I knew and expected this).
I plan on using the stock steering setup, but don't have one at the moment (so what if I'm buying my truck a piece at a time, I'll deal ). What I need to know before I fab up any mounts to set the engine in permanently is how far out from the frame rail (outside edge) does the stock steering box extend into the engine bay? I know that the stock unit is fairly compact, but I need to have an idea of what clearance I'll have, or if I need to slide the engine forward a bit (can't go right/passenger with it due to exhaust on that side) Just for your info, I am putting in a 400M, C-6 combo. Thanks in advance.

Jon

I can't provide you the answer since my steering parts are sitting in my sideyard, off of my frame. It's too bad you don't live in Oklahoma; I'm trying to give my whole stock front suspension and steering stuff away, but can't find any takers. I'm going to be using a MII and aftermarket steering so the stock parts are just taking up space in my yard.

If you are talking about the outer edge of the frame rail
(looking in the engine compartment on the left) it is appx.
5 inches.

ok, that answers my question, and sounds like I should have more than enough room to squeeze it in there. Thanks

and Ron, i'd gladly take ya up on the front end, but as you said, its a bit of a road trip for me, oh well, I do have the parts I need tracked down, but have to go pick them up sometime when I have a free weekend (not gunna happen for a while with me being a full time college student)
