roll pan problems
I want this to come out and be flush with the tailgate, and line up with the end of the rear fenders.. no problem.. Mid-Fifty has one, (in their paper catalog), 7244-xb, tall, extended pan with license box..
oops.. well, they don't actually have this available at all.. their manufacturer doesn't make this.. he makes 7242-B, which is the squared pan, that does NOT come out to line up flush with the tailgate..
Anyone see an Extended pan, with license box, and flush with fender bottom anywhere? I checked, Mar-K, Dennis Carpenter, Johns, Bobs, Sac Vintage, Northern Classic..

Got mine from Early Ford. Check my gallery to see if it is the one your looking for. Joe
I didn't find any roll pans in the Early Ford catalog online.
Also, on yours, there are little extensions welded to the bed near the rear fenders.. both the other roll pans in the MF catalog say they 'replace' those..
soes that mean I have to cut them off to install these pans? (no side view on yours)..
I see you did the stake pocket extensions.. are you happy with them now that its all done?
I wanted the more curved pan, so as not to have that big wall of metal under the tailgate.. I may just have to give up on the flush with tailgate look..

It is not flush with the tailgate from the side. Sounds like you may just wna to fab your own. I started to do that but got a good deal on this one. Not sure aht you mean by "little extensions" but am happy with the stake pocket extensions. The pics in my gallery have no body work done yet. I only welded it on and primed so far. Got a couple of other thing to do before I really get started on the body work.
Added another pic to my roll pan gallery from the side. When I bought mine EF offered three different models. Basically all fit the same.
On the extensions.. at the rear stake pocket, under the bed wall part is a 4x6 piece that comes down to the fender and lines up with the bottom of the stake pocket.. this is called the bed wall extension.. there is obviously a seam/line between this and the bed wall..
What did you do on the back? the pics show the flange on the roll pan as the same width as the rear cross member, but the stake pocket edge comes all the way down.. did you have to cut the back flange to place it in between the stake pockets, and weld/fill to get a flush back face at the rear cross member?
According to the diagram and description in the MF catalog(2006 page 114), the two other roll pans, (round-7241-b and square-7242-b) "replaces rear bed extensions". I have the 7242B sitting here and the top edge of the back part is flush with the top edge of the side part, and there is a slot where the back part wraps around the rear cross member. the top edge of the side part has a flange on it, just like the extension, to attach to the bed wall..
So it appears the intent of this is to have only ONE seam line under the bed wall between the stake pocket and fender. An admirable goal.. but I'm not drilling out the spot welds on my new bed for this, and then it would also wrap around and OVER the edge of the stake pocket on the bed side... ugly..
here is an end on pic of 7242-B, from the passenger side. the back is to the left. notice the high side wall. If the top of the back is supposed to be flush with the top of the rear cross member (like yours), then the sides have to be too.. oops, the bed extensions are in the way..
as for fabing my own.. if I thought I could pull that off, I would, but I know its beyond my skills..

I cut that portion of the new roll pan off rather than remove the original since mine was in perfect condition. If you don't have any rust problems in that area may want to do the same. Made it alot easier to install, just set her inplace with a floor jack and stitch welded it up.
